June 25, 2024

Ritual is collaborating with the Allora Network to create a decentralized, community-driven AI ecosystem. Our work will enable Ritual to power the end inferences for the Allora Network while simultaneously enabling Allora to help Ritual originate new models for the Ritual network.

Ritual's track record includes several marquee integrations: the network collaborated with Celestia for data availability and security guarantees for AI applications built on Ritual; additionally, Ritual partnered with EigenLayer, who developed new Actively Validated Services (AVSs) that will power various parts of Ritual's Infernet. Now, by integrating with Allora, Ritual will provide developers and users with unparalleled access to cutting-edge AI development tools and computational resources.

"With Ritual's AI-optimized infrastructure as the execution layer, and Allora's network for crowdsourcing best-in-class models, we will create a flywheel effect between our networks,” says Ritual Co-Founder Niraj Pant. “Together, we're making AI more powerful and accessible by putting it into the hands of our communities."

"With Ritual's advanced execution capabilities, we can finally unlock the true potential of the models and data contributed to the Allora Network,” says Nick Emmons, Co-Founder of Allora Labs. “This collaboration brings us closer to our shared vision of a decentralized AI future, where innovation is driven by the community, not AI monoliths."

How Allora and Ritual Fit in the Modular AI Stack

Allora and Ritual each play a crucial role in different layers of the modular AI stack. The modular AI stack consists of four layers, each focusing on a specific aspect of AI development. These layers are:

  1. The Data Layer
  2. The Compute Layer
  3. The Intelligence Layer
  4. The Execution Layer

The data layer is the foundation of AI development, focusing on the aggregation, structuring, and labeling of data used to train AI models. This layer is critical because the quality and quantity of data directly impact AI performance.

The compute layer focuses on providing access to the computational resources necessary to train AI models. AI workloads, particularly deep learning tasks, require significant computational power, often in the form of specialized hardware like GPUs and TPUs, making this an equally important layer of the stack.

In this conceptualization, Allora operates in the intelligence layer, while Ritual operates in the execution layer of the modular AI stack.

Allora’s Intelligence x Ritual’s Execution

The intelligence layer of the AI stack focuses on the algorithms, models, and techniques used to extract insights and make predictions from data. This layer is where the core "intelligence" of AI systems––and the people who create them––is developed.

Once AI models are trained, they need to be evaluated, optimized, and packaged into AI services that can be easily integrated into an application. This is the domain of the intelligence layer, where the Allora Network operates. Allora's decentralized infrastructure promotes model sharing, rewards the highest-scoring ones, and ensures continuous improvements of models through the collective-intelligence, delivering high-quality inferences.

The execution layer focuses on the infrastructure and platforms needed to deploy AI applications in a decentralized manner. This layer is necessary to realize the potential of the other layers––a vision where anyone can access advanced AI capabilities without being beholden to centralized gatekeepers. Ritual operates in this execution layer.

One of the key components of the execution layer is AI-optimized blockchains. These blockchains are specifically designed to support the unique requirements of AI workloads, such as:

  • Native-support for AI-specific data structures and operations (like inference) accessible via smart contracts
  • Modular integration of cryptographic and game-theoretic primitives for enhancing properties around model access

To that end, Ritual provides decentralized, blockchain-based infrastructure specifically designed for executing AI applications. Ritual incorporates AI-specific optimizations to enable efficient and secure execution of a developer's application. Through their collaboration with Allora, they bring the various components of the modular AI stack to life.

How Allora and Ritual Will Work Together

Initially, the collaboration will allow two key aspects of the AI ecosystem to flourish:

  1. Inference Requests: The actual inference run-throughs for the models on the Allora Network will be executed through Ritual nodes. This means whenever a user or application requests an inference from a model on Allora, Ritual's infrastructure will handle the execution of that request.
  2. Model Development: Builders in the Ritual ecosystem can take advantage of Allora’s infrastructure and set up an Allora topic for developing model’s specific to their infrastructure. This allows Ritual's partners to leverage Allora's decentralized infrastructure for model sharing, composition, and evaluation.

PancakeSwap's use of Allora's AI-driven pricing forecasts displays the smooth integration of Allora's innovative machine intelligence network into new applications, and how Ritual nodes execute the ML inference, bringing it to on-chain. Allora and Ritual are at the forefront of the AI stack intelligence frontier, empowering trailblazing protocols by managing a harmonious combination among multiple ML models, collectively optimizing shared objectives like providing accurate and insightful asset price predictions.

Because of this collaboration, developers and businesses will no longer be limited by the constraints of centralized AI platforms, which restrict access to their models and compute resources. Instead, developers will have the freedom to create, share, and deploy AI applications in a decentralized, transparent, and community-governed ecosystem.
